Who Are We?

Piritta and Niina with Ringo the Rhino in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya

We are Niina and Piritta, a team of two animal lovers and 4×4 adventurers from Finland who planned their escape from the “9-to-5 rat race” almost a decade ago – and we haven’t looked back since!

We’ve now traveled all over Southern, Eastern, and Western Africa for over six years. We’ve been in many remote corners of this continent, driven the 4×4 tracks where ordinary tourists never venture, and enjoyed it all. This year, 2025, we drove through West Africa from Namibia to Finland, and we are currently planning the next phase of our ongoing 4×4 overlanding adventure.

Niina is a writer and expert marketer who has worked as a strategist, copywriter, and marketing CEO for over 20 years. Piritta has been a wildlife and conservation photographer for over 10 years, bringing a fresh visual eye and versatility to her work as a conservation visual storyteller. Piritta also enjoys other arts, such as drawing and writing.

We left our corporate careers in Finland in 2018 to fulfill our dream of a life that looks 110% like us. We sold all our belongings and hit the road. First, we wanted to see the whole of Africa – with its diverse animals, rich cultures, breathtaking beauty, and profound struggles.

Our love for Africa began in 2015, when we fell in love with this incredible continent during our first visit to Tanzania. In the preceding years, we explored seven more African nations, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to South Africa, slowly getting to know the real Africa in its vibrant colors.

But at the same time, we were devastated to see the wildlife crisis all around us. The habitat loss that squeezes animals into small protected areas, poached carcasses, and the despair of meeting the last male Northern white rhino, Sudan, who has now passed away, leaving just two lone females of its subspecies on this planet.

Our hearts go out to the wildlife organizations, community-based conservation projects, and brave rangers who risk their lives to protect endangered animals. In these, we saw hope, and a thought was born that maybe we could also help, at least a bit, and Expedition Conservation became our answer.

With Expedition Conservation, we also want to share with you the immense beauty of our planet’s fantastic wildlife and wild places.

The spell of Africa – it is very real.

And maybe, if we bring all this beauty closer to people, we could inspire them to take more action for wildlife conservation and to conserve our environment for future generations.

It’s good to have a mission that is bigger than you. It gives you so much additional power and strength to go through even the hardest of times. Stay safe and take care!
